You know that feeling when you walk into a room and instantly wonder if you're meant to be there. Everyone seems to already know each other. You question whether you belong.

In this episode of Girls in Property I'm joined by Amy Miller, our incredible Girls in Property community leader, who walked into her very first event alone and terrified. Today she's the one welcoming other women through those same doors.

Amy shares the honest version of her story. The self doubt before she booked her first retreat. Walking into that room on her own. The letter she wrote to her future self and what happened when she opened it a year later. We talk about borrowing confidence from the ordinary parts of life, why so many women delay showing up until they feel "ready", and how purpose changed everything for her business and her identity.

We also go deeper into the stuff that sits underneath it all. Rebuilding self esteem. Walking back into a gym when you feel like a stranger in your own body. Sharing your story instead of hiding it. And whether the hardest chapters of your life become the obstacle or the catalyst.

Because belonging isn't something you earn by being impressive enough. It's something you claim by walking in.

If you've been waiting until you feel confident enough, qualified enough or ready enough to step into a room, this one is for you. Your seat is already there.

Lets continue to learn & grow together, always x

Good morning everyone and welcome to today's episode of the Girls in Property podcast. Oh, I am so excited for today's episode. What an absolute treat that you are all in for today, and I know you're absolutely gonna love this one. Because let's face it, you know, we all know this absolutely gorgeous human being, but what I think is really important today is actually to really, really talk about how this all came about and the story of it. Because I spoke to I spoke to Amy before she came on the podcast today and I said to her, you know, what are your intentions for this episode? What are our intentions for this episode? And I think really what I want to do is anyone who's listening to this today who's maybe feeling like they're in a lull period, maybe feeling like they're not good enough, maybe feeling like they're not they can't walk into these rooms because they haven't got enough experience or they're not feeling like they're they're they're at their best. I want you to listen to today's episode and know that you belong. Know that you belong in the rooms. Know that you belong in your skin. Know that you belong. Where it is, wherever you need to be, and to really like that fire in you today, not just with my help, but with gorgeous Amy's help as well, in order to really accelerate you forwards. And that is the intention of today's episode, to really make you feel fantastic in yourself. So without further ado, I'd love to introduce our beautiful Girls in Property community leader, Amy Miller. Hey Amy! Hello. I'm good. Welcome to the Girls in Property Podcast. Thank you so much. It's a bit weird being here because I'm used to watching it, listening to it, but I'm actually here doing it. So yeah, amazing. Mmm. do you know do you know what? When we really reflect, and of course we're gonna talk about the story of this, when we reflect about what was it, a year ago, a year and a bit ago? Okay, a year and a half? Hmm. Only a year and a half though, like only a year and a half, and we think about and you know I I look at those photos by the way, Amy, of a year and a half ago when we're in photos together. And I'll be honest with you, I had absolutely no idea that me and you would almost become as close as as we are and go on to, you know, create what it is that we're creating, as it were. And I I look at that woman in those photos, and I look at the woman who's now sat in front of me now, and you have just you've gone from, as the tattoo suggests that we got in Marbella together, you've gone from a caterpillar in a cac in a in a cocoon into this beautiful butterfly that I see in you now. Um and I really, really love that for you. thank you so much. Yeah. Tattoo was amazing. Still got it. Still there. waiting for number Yeah, it's gone. No, still there, still there. Waiting to get my second one. So I will be out to see you at some point to do that. Um, but yeah, I have. I've I I it's definitely been the journey of caterpillar to butterfly. Absolutely. Hmm, and it's gorgeous. So let's let let's do this from the start then, because I think it's important to say what I will caveat is saying, because I think it's important. The story goes that, and Amy will tell her own story, but in short, the summary of this is and why this is important for you all to hear this. Amy basically me and Amy knew each other because we both lived in the same area. Well, similar area, basically Southwest. So I lived in Bournemouth and Amy lived over in Dorchester and still does. And we sort of met up as part of Girls and Property and we went out for dinner and all of this. And then and then what actually happened was that um Amy's husband, Simon, shout out to Simon, who I've yet to meet but can't wait to do so. Amy's husband Simon actually reached out to me and said, Hi, Athena, I've listened to your podcast. I love your podcast. So shout out to all the guys that listen to this for their wives as well, and sisters and nieces and everything. I think it'd be really great for you to meet meet my wife and for my wife to come to the Garden Property retreat. And I said, Do you know what, Simon? I absolutely love this. I love the fact you've thought of your wife. I love the fact that this is what's happening. Absolutely, here's a ticket. Book it for her. And he booked it for her there and then. And then we were sort of talking, you came to one of I think the events that I was speaking at over in Progressive Property Network. we met, we went for dinner with a bunch of other girls, etc. And I remember that night you messaging me, leaving me a, I think, a voice note, which I've got to find that voice note by the way, because it's it has to be played on stage one day. Essentially saying to me, um, I'm not coming to the retreat. Like I'm not coming, I don't feel confident enough to, I'm not ready to do it. I can't do this. And I think the retreat was happening the the the next day, like literally like the next day, or something was going on. And I remember replying to you very, very politely but very firmly saying to you, don't talk such rubbish. You are abs you're absolutely coming to the retreat. I'll see you there. And and you did in your absolute credit to you, Amy. You came to the retreat. I literally dragged you into the room and went, Right, come on, in you come. This is what we're doing. And I just wanna what I wanted to do there was just set this conversation up for anyone who needed to know why today's episode was so important to listen to is anyone who feels like and messages me that says, Athena, I'm gonna wait to get my first property before I go to a networking event. I'm gonna wait to have something under my belt before I go to a business event, I'm gonna wait for something to happen before I put myself out there on social media. Absolutely not. Absolutely do the opposite of that because what Amy has achieved in a year and a half is because she put herself out there. So Amy, the floor is yours. I want to hear from you with your story and kind of what you would love to tell the the the listeners today. Gosh, yeah, so you've explained straight away how we became incredibly good friends, um, all through my husband, um, which was amazing. And to be honest with you, when he told me that he had booked my ticket for the retreat, because bearing in mind, ladies, I didn't know. Like he'd just done it. He went behind my back and he did it. But do you know what? It makes me love him more because he saw an opportunity for me to actually like build rel relationships with women again because my my track record of building relationships with women is not very good in the sense of you know I found that I found the wrong women in my corner. Um not a very good relationship with my mum, which was you know from a very young age. So he saw an opportunity for me to sort of gain back my relationship with women. So when he told me that he got this ticket, I actually shouted at him. I was actually like, I am really disappointed in you. Why have you done that? Because, you know, he's put me in a position that I wasn't expecting to be in. Um but thank God that he did. Because the journey that happened after that was just incredible. It was amazing. to go from someone who messaged you and said, I'm not I'm not doing this. I'm not doing this. And something that will live rent-free in my head, absolutely rent-free, was what you said in your message. And that was, Do you trust me? And I was like, Yeah, just met this woman, but yeah. Um, and then she said more, and then you said more importantly, do you trust yourself? And I was like, Yeah, I do trust myself. And that was the start, that was the beginning of me putting myself out there. Me walking into rooms that I didn't even think I belonged in. Like me? Are you joking? The audacity, someone from, you know, Southampton originally. How dare I go and be in a room full of amazing women. But I will never forget the day I walked into the retreat and it was the first event I did on my own. I knew it was going to be the first biggest event that I had done on my own. And I I did the whole thing. I sat in the car. I sat in the car park at Penley Manor. All I could hear was peacocks around me, which was beautiful by the way. And I felt like it really relaxed me. and I sat in that car for about 20 minutes. And I contemplated how I was gonna do it. So many things were going through my head at the time. Like, am I gonna be able to put myself in the room. Am I actually even going to be able to walk through the threshold? Am I actually going to be able to walk through that door? And I can remember mustering up the strength and someone actually came in and parked next to me. And it was another lady from Girls in Property. Um she'd done a couple of your retreats and I said, I don't know where I'm going. I knew exactly where I was going, just to say, I knew exactly where I was going. I could see where it was. I could see where everything was happening. Um And bless her, she literally went, I'll I'll come with you. It's just over here. And I was like, amazing. Because I didn't want to walk on my own. Um, but I did end up walking into that room on my own because bless her, she was I just need to take this phone call. And I was like, No, I need to walk in with someone. and walking into that room, and the first person I actually got to see was Sophie Foote. Um, and she gave me the biggest. hug and she's like, You're trembling. And I was like, I know. and from there I started to see faces that I knew because obviously when we went out for dinner, like the night before, I'd already met a few of the ladies that were going to the retreat. So, you know, I saw Lucinda, um, I saw a couple of the other girls. I was like, Okay, okay, this is great, this is amazing. I feel I feel okay. I'm in a safe space. And I instantly felt that when I walked into the room. And it's really important for women to know that when it's your room, you'll know because you'll feel safe instantly, is how I feel. Is is how I feel it should be. You have a safe space. And I then saw my who I call my wing woman, which is Stacy now. Um, and she came straight up to me, lifted me up, and was like, I'm gonna take you upstairs. And just having that person who like pushes you onto that next step. And that's what it felt like to me. So the first step was getting through the door. The next step was getting upstairs. The next part was going into a room full of women. And I can remember getting up to the room and there was a few women up there already. And my first thought was what am I gonna have to offer? Because all these ladies are going to know what they're talking about, aren't they? Right? They're all going to know their field They're all gonna know, you know, if someone asks them a question, they're gonna be able to answer it. And I can remember feeling that sense of insecurity. And I just was like, no. And I can remember feeling really like my my my throat was enclosing. I felt like the pit of my tummy was not feeling great. And I can remember walking in the room and thinking, wow, this is beautiful. I used to do wedding events. And I can remember walking into that room going, wow. This is beautiful. This lady's got style. And I instantly felt welcome. I was, I was, I didn't have to be pushed into a group of of ladies. I literally walked in, coffee first, of course. Lots lots on offer when you go go up to the the breakfast room. Um and then walked into a conversation with two other people. And one of those people is Lauren Harris, who I call Harris all the time now. Um, and she instantly made me feel comfortable and made me feel welcome. And it was her first year as well. So we were experiencing it for the f the very first time together. and then the day unfolded in such a way that I didn't expect, I didn't know what to expect at all from the retreat, if I'm honest with you. I, you know, Simon had bought me a ticket, I turned up, I did the first part, and then I was like, ooh. Okay, what comes next? And what came next was just beyond anything that I could imagine because I found a table full of ladies that I laughed with all day. And I sat at the front as well, which is a bit odd for someone who's brand new. You'd think you sit at the back because you don't want to be picked on, but that's not what it's about. Not what it's about. So walking into a a a room full of ladies sitting on a table of 10 was quite a big thing for me. Um and finding the confidence to do that was it was hard and I had to find the confidence to do it all day because I didn't want to I didn't want to be the person that was in the corner on their own. I wanted to be with people, talking with people, sharing my story, them sharing their story. It's really important, like to me, someone that has gone through this process, it's really important for me to hear someone's story. Um, because so many people have listened to mine. and how I've done it. so yeah, so the day it went really quickly actually when I look at it. It went really, really quickly. And I can remember being in awe of all these women stood up on stage talking um about their field. And I can remember, do you know what? There was a part in the day, and I think it was after lunch and everyone was congregating and having chats. And I can remember looking around the room and going, Yeah, I'm in the right place. And like I instantly felt that. And that's really important when you when you're someone that feels like you don't belong, and that's in any kind of social situation. So to walk in a room and you get to lunch time and you go, Oh, yeah, this feels good. And it did, it just hit me like a wave. And you know, we we skip through the day and we like have our photos done outside, and the peacocks are there, and I'm thinking, my god, this is amazing. And I felt amazing from the person that walked in to like a shivering mess to the person that once we got the the the main of the day out and we were having our photographs taken and and we were you know having those moments to have a chat with absolutely everyone a lot of ladies to get around as well I felt like it was home for me and it is still home for me which tells me that it was the best decision that Simon made. To buy me a ticket to to the retreat so that I could experience something for the first time. And that experience was building new relationships with women. It was it was solely that at the time. um And then I can remember my my fondest memory of the day. Which sounds really weird. Like I loved the day. It was amazing. But my fondest memory and something that I will keep with me because it led into this year was having dinner and then disappearing upstairs. Because I was like, right, I'm ready to go to bed now. Cup of tea. You know what I'm like? Cup of tea, sit in bed and ponder on my day. And I didn't ponder. I actually wrote a letter to myself. I wrote a letter to myself that I knew I would open up in a year's time because I knew I would be at the 2026 event. I already knew that in a space of a few hours. I already knew that I found my home and and that was really important for me. And I found my women as well, which I never thought in a lifetime I would do. I never thought I'd have the confidence to walk into a room and feel other women's, you know, energy. Never thought in a million years that I would. Ever. So to to find your home in one day. Mm. pretty extraordinary. So you wrote that letter to yourself. I didn't know that by the way. I didn't know that you wrote that letter to yourself. So when did you open that letter? So I opened that letter on the morning of the twenty twenty six retreat this year. I sat in bed in my dressing gown with a cup of tea and I opened that letter. So originally I was going to open that letter up the night before, but we ended up I just ended up soaking up all the energy in the evening before, like, you know, meeting the women at the stay over. Such a great night. It was just so nice to meet everyone face to face. And I, you know, um, obviously I walked into the retreat a completely different person. You know, I was 2026 was I was the community leader, um, I was watching out for everyone. I'm that kind of person that has to make sure that everyone's okay, you know. And I I literally walked in there a different person. So opening opening up my letter on the morning of was the best thing I did because originally I was doing it the evening before, and I don't think I would have felt a certain way. Hmm, no I'm glad you did on the morning of. So do you remember do you remember roughly what you said in that in that letter? What did you say? I basically said that I I literally told myself how the day had gone so that I could remember um step by step the same journey that I was gonna have to take in 2026. Um I also put in that letter memorable people throughout the day. So Lauren Harris, Lucinda, who I absolutely love. Um I also put in that letter. that one day I was gonna work with you. That was my PS moment. So my PS, one day I'm gonna work with Athena. I just didn't know how I was gonna work with Athena. I didn't know if I was gonna the confidence to work with you. So my letter was just the outlay of feelings, how I felt throughout the day in certain parts of the day. And yeah, it it it yeah it was um I cried I literally sat there and cried because I think it was the first time that I realised how far I'd come. Hmm. Uh do you know what? Yeah, yeah. You al i yeah. I always just it's really interesting actually 'cause 'cause how do I explain this? I feel like I feel like There are certain people in life where I I can just see your soul, Amy. Like I can just see you. And so for me it's very much like, I don't know, I could just see so much potential in you and I could just see so much love in you. I think that's that's the biggest thing. I think that there are for me personally, I'll tell you what I'm learning most about being a business owner, is that there are lots of different people in life and everyone has a right to lead their life the way they want to live. I have no shade to give, I have no criticism to give, I just see people. And I meet people on a daily basis because I love meeting people. And there are some people who do things because they want success and whatever success looks like for them and they're like, I want this Porsche or this Lamborghini or I want all this money and I want to do this and this. Absolutely fine. I full credit to you. No problem whatsoever. And then there are some people that I see who just lead with pureness and heart, real heart. And for me, you know, funny enough, I had this conversation the other day actually, because you know, I'm looking at businesses at the moment and buying businesses. And so somebody said to me the other day, they're like, Drecking, you'll sell girls on property one day. You know? I know, I know. They asked me that question. Because obviously looking at buying businesses. They're like, Well, hold on, you're a business owner. Would you sell your business? And the answer is yes. One day I would sell girls and property. I would. Um, unless I have a daughter, we'll see, and she would want it, but who knows? But yes, I would sell it. And when I really think about Either a person I would sell girls and property to, or the person that I would take on as community leader, is a person that understands the absolute heart and soul that exists at the core of girls and property, which is that money does not come first. What comes first is heart, soul, goodness. Because I believe, I believe, my belief is that when you do good, you get good. And that I believe in Everybody succeeding and everybody winning, and you hold that heart in such pure pureness. And I tell you what I'm actually recognizing right now, and actually I need this to remind me is whenever I do these events, by the way, just just for anyone who hasn't been, this is an 80 80 woman event, right? This is 80 women in a room. So the fact that Amy didn't just walk in, just Amy didn't walk into a room with 15 women, 20 women. Amy walked into a room with 80 strong women, okay? 80 strong women. Now I can tell you that for April. 2027 Girls and Property Retreat. Say the date is coming, by the way. The date has been confirmed for April 27. I can tell you that there's going to be a hundred women in the room. We're going to a hundred. So we're going even bigger, right? And what I can tell you is that um When I do these days, of course, naturally, you know, my head is full of things. I'm like, right, I've got a million things to plan. I've got to work out all the speakers, I've got to work out the order events, I've got to make sure everyone else is having a good time. It's like having a wedding day, right? You never really enjoy your own wedding day, you're just worrying about other people. But what you've just done in that moment for me, Amy, is you've you've allowed me to take a step back to recognise, which I do know, but sometimes forget, is that the day is actually made up of so many incredible people because, you know, you mentioning Lauren Harris there, you mentioning Lucinda, you're mentioning Sophie Foote. Like these are the people that make the day, you know, all the women that come together to really support one another, to say, look, this is what I'm doing. And and what's beautiful now, Amy, is that a year and a half on, you are now the woman that literally gets other women into the room. So let me ask you this. How did it feel the morning of when you, you know, there was how how many how many newbies were there that you had to rally, like 35 of them or something? there was about thirty of them that I had to um i keep all together so that we could walk in convoy to the actual retreat. Mm. third let's go with 30, right? So you're not standing there. They're looking to you, right? They're looking to you as their community leader. 30 newbies, terrified to walk into the room. How did that feel for you? I think the first time in a really long time I knew that I'd found my purpose. So when I left my job in twenty twenty five, my corporate job, the one the one word that I used to Simon, in particular when we were talking about setting up a business, was I need to have purpose. And for a very long time I just didn't have purpose. And a lot of a lot of our friends would say, What do you mean you haven't got purpose? Like you're a mum, you're a wife. And I was like, No, I need purpose. Like I I need some potential in there for for me. I need to think about myself as well. Um, and I can remember being in the Shakespeare bar with all these ladies who were talking, um, getting comfortable with who they were with at the time. I can remember sitting back and looking at it, going, I found my purpose, found my place. I actually now belong to something. And that was so important to me. So, so important. So to have that feeling of, Yeah, to have that feeling of someone. Do you know what? To have a feeling, if I'm being really honest, um, to have a feeling of being needed somewhere. I think it's a massive thing. And it just felt amazing. I didn't stop smiling. I was jumping, I was singing around, I was skipping, I was doing all sorts of crazy stuff on the morning. But you know, that's that's how people know me now. People know me like when I'm at the retreat now, that I am the happy go lucky person in the morning that you're gonna see first thing. And I'm gonna take you through to a room that changed my life, changed my trajectory completely to where I thought I was gonna head. Yeah. Isn't incredible? I think life life's a funny one, you know, when you w I feel like life prepares us for things when we're ready, as it were. And sometimes we need other people to see that we're ready before we see it ourselves, which is what you had with Simon, where he saw that you were ready, which is fabulous. and let me ask you this. In fact, I've got I've got so many things I I want to ask you because the reason I want to do this is because there are so many women I know. I literally had this conversation, I won't name names, but I had this conversation with somebody yesterday who who literally said to me I suggested some networking events that she should go to, basically. I said, you know, you should you should go and check these out. And actually I'm gonna I'm gonna name a few today because I get this question quite a lot. So I'm gonna do it on a podcast today. But she said to me, I think I'm gonna wait till I get a property under my belt or a rent-to-rent or a deal sourcing or anything before I go to these events because I feel like I'm not gonna have anything to say to anyone and I'm gonna feel really silly. And what I like, in fact Before I go into celebrations, let me just ask you that question. What would you say to somebody who says that to you on a voice note? Absolutely don't wait. So, from my experience, when I walked into Girls and Property, um, I already knew, you know, yes, we had a property because we were accidental landlords. I didn't really have much to do with it. Simon was dealing with all of that. But for me, my personal work was being uh a PA. And when I walked into the retreat that day, I had no clients. I had no clients. So I would say Say yes. Say yes. Just go and say yes because the opportunity on the other side of that door is waiting for you. Why are you waiting to be ready? Because I don't think any of us are really that ready to go and do something. And I'm a big believer that if it's a confidence thing, because you want to go in and say, I've got this, I've got that, to the person that you're talking to, I think action comes before confidence anyway. Personally. And you know what? I'm gonna give an example. It sounds really silly, but it actually is gonna help everyone, everyone here. Because, you know, people might say to me, um, Athena, you know, it's easy it's easy for you. You know, you go into a networking event now and and you know, this is what you do. I tell you what, let me give you an example that's a bit far-fetched, right? But it's an example which is important for you all to recognise that I too have these moments. So I'm out here in Marbella at the moment, right? As you all know. I don't know anybody here. I'm out here completely on my own getting and winter sun and I found on Instagram a run club. I was like, do you know what? I really, really want to go run on a Sunday. And I was on Instagram and I was like, I'm gonna go find that. By the way, Instagram, ladies. It put your business on social media because I'm telling you, people will find your business, okay? If you've not got your business on social media, what are you even doing? Because this is how I found this business, okay? And it's called Run Club Marbella. And I looked at it and everyone looks fa like listen in Marbella. Everybody looks beautiful, fit, glamorous, everyone walks around in gym gear. It's Marbella, okay? Anyway, so I nearly didn't go. Like Mm me, right? Me, I nearly didn't go because I said to myself, the voices in my head said to myself, number one, um, I don't think I've ever run 5k in my life. I hate running with a passion. I'm a sprinter, I'm a hurdler, I'm a get into the gym, get it done, get out, sprint for 40 seconds, rest for 20, right? I'm not a 5k runner, so I went like, oh Jesus, really? So I nearly didn't go. Number two, I didn't know anyone. I thought it's gonna be really clicky, everyone's gonna know each other in Marbella, like I not gonna I'm gonna feel really uncomfortable. But I said to myself, Athena, you're going. Like set your alarm, you are going. And even on the way there in my little car, I was like, oh God, am I really doing this? And I'm gonna feel really uncomfortable. And and I remember saying to myself in the car, like a pep talk, I said, Athena, think of it like you're about to go to a networking event, right? Borrow confidence. Um something that I'm I'm working really closely on with one of my subconscious coaches at the moment is she always asks me, she says, when you feel not confident in a moment, she says, name me a place in your life where you feel confident. And I name her places where I feel confident. And she says to me, How can you borrow confidence from those moments, those experiences, and put it into this? So as I'm driving, I'm borrowing confidence from areas of my life and putting it into this moment. And I remember I walked up to this thing, and there's about 50-60 people all getting ready to run, right? 50-60 people. And I went and I just sat down. And do you know the first thing I wanted to do, the first thing I wanted to do, and I was like urging to do it, was to just sit on my phone, right? Sit on my own, on my phone, until we started running. So I didn't have to talk to anyone and that I could sit there, right? I deliberately put my phone in my pocket, deliberately, and I said, You're not doing that, Athena. You are going to go and talk to people. Stop it. Go and do it. Mm-hmm. forced myself, literally forced myself. And by the way, remember, in Marbella, you don't know who speaks English, Spanish, Swedish, German. You have no idea. So going up to somebody and speaking in English is a gamble, FYI. You can get rejected. So I went and spoke to her, and she happened to be Italian, but she did speak some English, and I just started a conversation with her. I was like, Have you been to a run club before? tell me about you and then she started giving me like these really great recommendations and everything. Anyway, I then um we're then getting all all lined up, ready to go, and then I see this lovely girl who's got a beautiful tattoo back piece. Now, as you know, I'm slightly obsessed with tattoos at the moment. Beautiful back piece. So I said to her, I love your back piece on your of your tattoo. She was Russian. She spoke English. She says, thank you. I literally got it like a couple of weeks ago. I said, Where did you get it done? We went to the same tattoo place. And then I was like, my god, I love it. I love the design. Talk to me about this. Anyway, we then start just talking, we start running and end up running this whole 5K together. Now I'm shocked that I ran 5K. Absolutely shocked. And then as we're running, we then meet other people, and then we start having conversations, and then we finish and we're all exhausted. Then we go for drinks afterwards. And then I start understanding that actually all this happens. And then do you know what happened after that? Listen to this. This is fortuitous. I then met a guy who we ended up running with who said, I told him I was in property. He then said, You should definitely get this couple on the podcast, the girls on property podcasts. And I thought, okay, who's that? And he gave me the name of them. I won't say who, because they are coming on the podcast. I want to talk about the story when I do it. And anyway, I messaged them because I know them. And I was like, my God. So we sent them a video together going, and it ended up that it was his best mate, who he knows, that I also know, because it's a small world, that then, and then I messaged them and they're coming on the podcast, I think, in like three weeks, four weeks, all because I went to run club. And they basically do Airbnbs. So we're gonna be talking about Airbnbs. My point is, I also feel this way. I also feel like I don't want to do it. I also feel like this. And it's in the opportunity that we give ourselves, it's or in the opportunity that we gain And it's about stepping out of your comfort zone. And quite frankly, and I mean this with the greatest love and respect that I can possibly give in this moment, is stop bullshitting yourself and stop standing in your own goddamn way and actually do something about it because you have a choice to make, which is you either have the fear and you either stand still and you don't do anything with your life and you keep watching from the sidelines and watching everybody else go live their life and then moan about it, or you actually go do something about it. And you and you only have that choice to make. So that is said that love and respect, but yeah. Exactly. No, see, I totally agree with that because I think for the amount of women that say, No, I'm not gonna go and do this, no, I'm not gonna do that, and they don't they they don't give themselves permission to say yes to something that's got opportunity on the side of it, you know, on the other side. I I just think it's just mad. It's madness. But I can say that now because I've done the steps. Yeah, but Amy, you said yourself that you used the words you were disappointed in your husband. Like let's just caveat that, right? You said I'm disappointed in you. So it's easy for you to sit here now and to say this, but a year and a half ago, you were mad at him. I was so mad at him, so mad at him. I was like, How dare you put me in this position? He's like, What position? He was like, if someone's gonna push you, it's gonna, it's gonna be Simon. Simon's always gonna be that person that's right up there going, right, okay, what's next? What's next? Come on. You know, he is he's still like that with me. And I'm like on it all the time. And he's like, No, what's next? What are you doing next? Um, and you do know that you need those people around. Like you really need those people around, and it's accountability and it's someone to say to you, What the hell are you doing? Just sitting there doing nothing. You can sit there. This is the one thing that gets me is that I have a lot of women who go, I can't do this, I can't do that, I I can't, I can't go off to I don't know, this this networking because it's gonna cost me lots of money. But what are you gonna get back in tenfold? Does anyone think outside of that, what are you actually going to get back? Because for me, I walked into the the retreat last year. One person, this year I walked in a different person with a different kind of clientele and a different plan. And a different person. Yeah. return on investment of what you've invested in your ticket is infinity. Yeah, absolutely. It's massive. Like the opportunities are there, but you've got to go, you know, like you say all the time, like you can bring people to water, but you can't make them drink. And you can't. Like you can only put so much effort into people. Um, but it's so empowering. I cannot I cannot say it enough when you actually go through the steps that I've been through in the last year and a half. The woman that I want to become. And I've still got a few to go. Like I'm, you know, I'm still working on things, ladies. It's not, it's not all set in stone, and I'm I'm all good to go. Like I think we all have stuff to work on. But that's growth to me. And the growth that I've seen in a year and a half, which isn't long, is immense. Because I said yes to things. And I thought about, you know, I thought about things like finances afterwards. I know that this is going to bring me back something tenfold. I know if I put myself in this room, I'm going to make some great connections. You know, I said to myself, and even more so, did the retreat, but we also did the beach party, uh, which was mad that day. And I can remember also sat there still saying, I'm gonna work with you. I'm gonna work with you. I just didn't know how. And I knew that I wanted to. This is my kind of person. I wanna work with her. I love her retreats, I love her workshops, I love this, that, and the other. It's my home. And it is, it's my home. Like I I am not community leader for anyone else. This is this is my home because I choose to be here and because someone really weird, like Stace always used to say to me, Yes, we were watching you. It's like that's weird. But you were watching me. So people, when when when ladies, when you're putting yourself out there and you're going on a journey like I have, people were watching. But if you're not putting yourself out there and you're not saying yes to things and you're giving yourself permission to do things, it's it's gonna it's gonna work. It's gonna work, is all I can say. Do you what? You you made such a funny point there because it's right. So I I say this quite a lot, right? So for those who are listening to this that are in the community, you'll know I say this to you. And for those who are not in the community yet, I'm gonna put the three letters, yet, you need to come join the community. You'll hear me say this, right? And I mean it when I say it. And you think I'm joking and I'm not joking. I watch people. I watch people very quietly as well, right? And you think I'm not watching you, but I'm watching you. And I'm watching to see who turns up, who shows up, who puts in energy, who's hungry, who desires it. Because for me, my purpose, if you want to talk about purpose, extends beyond. money. It extends beyond anything else. And I've always said this when I look at my my my vision to victory and what it is that I want because I want to build out a fund and I want to support women and I want to invest in female businesses, right? And I'm telling you this now. One day I'm gonna have this fund set up and I'm gonna be in a position where I can start investing in businesses. And if I've been watching women for a while who are work their arse off from the beginning, from the ground up, who are hungry for it, who want it, who I see them turn up, who I see fail, who I see get back up again, you best believe I'm investing in them. Whereas if you join the community and you just sit in the background and you just sort of like puddle along but really don't do anything with it. Great, I'll have you in the community, I'll have you in my family. You are welcome at my table, you always will be. But I ain't investing in you because I don't see that hunger. I don't see it. And I always say this like, it's the same people time and time again. It's the same people that show up. It's the same people that when I say, comment the word this, it's the same people when I say, Right, who's taking part in the five day challenge? Who's taking part in the earn and grow? Who's taking part in this? It's the same names I see time and time again. Those are the women that I'm watching. And I say this the women that sit in the background, who I see sit in the background, I go, okay. I respect you, I love you, I have love for you. Will I invest in you one day? Probably not. Because I don't believe that you have the hunger for it. So, Amy, I watched you. I watched you from the moment I met you. And I remember sitting with Stacy that day and we said, We need a community leader. We need a community leader to run this. And we both looked at each other. And I just said, Amy's our girl. And you know what it came down to? It didn't come down to us saying to you, our cons not our concern, our thought was never whether it was you or not. Our thought was will Amy say yes to us? Will you say yes to us? And I think that's important to say because it was never whether we chose you, it was always going to be whether you chose us. Mm. Yeah, absolutely right as well. And you know, I can remember I will never ever forget the fac well, you guys were meant to come and stay with me, weren't you? And you were gonna do like a whole big thing. Flooding. Yeah, flooding. And yeah, and I and and then you were at the gym one day, you were in London and you were like, Can we do like a zoom? And I was like, Yeah, cool. you're like, I've got an idea and I was like, no. Here we go. I mean oh it's with me starts with, I've got an idea. Pretty much, pretty much. And I can remember you going through it and saying about community leader and I actually had an inkling that's what it was gonna be. I love the community. Love the community. It's my home, it's my purpose, it's what I get up for every day. and I'm so grateful that you did that Zoom with me, 'cause I think I come off the Zoom. I ran well, I didn't run down the stairs 'cause I'm up in the loft, but I like literally was like trying to get down the stairs quick enough. Told Simon, he just looked at me and went, see. I was like, wow, look at the confidence then. He's like, see, I told you. Be the best thing you've ever done. And I was like, I know, I know, I'll give you the praise later. I love that, I love that. So let me ask you this then. What with all this going on, Amy, like what are you celebrating at the moment? Because let let's celebrate. What are you celebrating? I am celebrating having over 70 on my wait list for she belongs here, which I've had so much help from you um and our community. But um yeah, no, I think that's my biggest celebration at the moment. And do you know what I'm celebrating me? Because I'm a completely different person, completely different person, and I'm so looking forward to like, you know, like more steps that I'm gonna be taking um into my business that. It's gonna accelerate me even more. Um, so yeah, I'm looking forward to that. Just so that people know what is she belongs, because people are gonna wanna know what it is. So she belongs here is a free community for women who have ever felt like they don't belong in a room. Um and that room doesn't have to be networking. Um that room can be going back to the gym. That room could be um an interview, a date. It can be any room that you are waiting to walk into but haven't quite given yourself the permission to do it. And I cannot wait to welcome all these beautiful women in. Um, I've seen you do it time and time and time again and it's given me the fire to really make it work um and to really help these women because I've done the steps, I know what it takes, and I just can't wait to see other women do it because that's what it's all about. It's about getting women out there into rooms that, you know, maybe they don't feel comfortable in. And I'm not saying the first time you do it, it's gonna feel comfortable like it did for me. Um, it might be that it's not your room. Um, and you will find this along the way. And yeah, I cannot wait for the community to open. Super. Give an example of this. You've mentioned the gym there. You know, give an example of what happened the other day where somebody messaged you. Just just so that people don't just feel that it's about networking, it's about any physical room. So what what happened? Yeah. So I had a lady that contact me through Instagram. Really important, like Athena said, put your business on Instagram because that's how I got this DM. Um and it was a mum um who had not long had a baby. She used to be the gym buff. So she used to go to gym all the time. Um obviously she's had a baby. Um, she's feeling less confident in her own skin. And she basically said to me, I'm local to you. And I was like, where are you? And she told me where she was, and she said I want to walk back into the gym and I can't, like I can't face it. So we went through a few sort of blocking issues, what what was stopping her from walking into the room. and then I went, right, okay. Um I'll see you at the gym at this day, this time, because that's the times that she told me she goes. And I said, And we're gonna walk through together. She went, Really? You're gonna do that? And I was like, Yeah, absolutely. And we got to I met her, uh, we actually met for a a a smoothie, healthy smoothie before we went in. And I got to walk her into the gym. I stayed with her and then walked her back out. And I will never ever forget her face. And she's like, no one was interested in me. Like I literally went in, put my headphones in, did my gym workout, and I didn't feel like there were eyes on me in a bad way. And I was like, Absolutely, because you took the steps to get in there, we spoke about your blockers, we we spoke about what was stopping you from doing the one thing that you really enjoyed before coming a mum. I said And actually you got in there and it was completely different to how you were expecting it in your head. So it's you you women get in their own heads so badly about these things and actually they turn out not to be as bad as what you think. So yeah, so I helped this beautiful woman into a gym. She's working out and she actually gives me updates. So she's now in the gym four times a week. Um she puts her baby into the crash there so that she can go and have her hour to herself. Um and the other thing that she wouldn't do was shower in the gym. And I was like, Why don't you shower? And she's like, just in case someone walks in and I'm, you know, I don't want to show you my body. I don't want and all these things were like clouding up her brain. Um, and the other day she messaged me to say, I had a shower in the gym. I took an extra twenty minutes for myself and had a shower. And I was like, Okay, cool. Brilliant, amazing, let's celebrate that. So yeah, so doing that for a a woman and I've been there. I've been there as a mum of of two girls. not wanting to get back to the gym, not wanting to really go outside. Um, so that was very special moment for me. Mm. Take a moment there, Amy, like take a moment, because I don't think we do this enough, right? Then it's part of your celebration. Take a moment to recognise the fact that how does it feel to know that you just changed that woman's life? No. Do know what it's it it it it feels I actually get butterflies in my stomach when these things kind of happen because you did it for for me, you and Stace did it for me, and I now get to show that exactly the same love to everyone else, and that's everything to me. That's everything. Is just to be kind to someone, understand their feelings, and then to come away from it feeling like I've actually added to that person's life. That's purpose. That's what it is. It's purpose. Mm. know I can completely, completely resonate and and and relate to that because For me, I always think about this notion of legacy and I think of this notion of like this ripple effect, where for me I want to inspire other people and then take and then for other people to inspire other people and then other people to inspire other people. And I think that that's where my purpose is, is this ripple effect. Like if you're gonna throw a stone and then it kind of goes like this. And this is part of my human design, um, which I did with Emma Finn, Gorgeous Emma, which is I just really, really just want to make women feel empowered to go and just believe that they can do it. And I can't do this on my own. And I've I've been really open about this. I always say I can't do this on my own. This takes an army. This literally takes an army to put one person to do the next, the next, the next, the next. And that's what's happening right here, right now. And yeah, how fantasti how fantastic is that. One thing that I think is important to caveat though, and I do think this is important on the podcast, because for those who don't know you, Amy, talk to me about like something that's Like for for those who don't know you, this is not the Amy that existed a year and a half ago. You know, you it it was quite dark for you. It was sort of a dark place. And I think what's important to to say is there will be people listening to this Amy who were you a year and a half ago, who are listening to this right now, feeling the way that you felt all that time ago, and really not knowing who they are and not feeling good enough as it were. Let's have a real r frank and honest conversation here if that's okay with you about you and and where you're at and what message you would love to give to a woman sat in your shoes a year and a half ago or or a y a young Amy essentially. I think, yeah, do you know what I I have asked this question to myself, what would I say to the young Amy right now? And the young Amy would be, please don't listen to people, people that are not positive. You know, I I'm not afraid to say that my upbringing wasn't wasn't great. Um, and I had a lot of really nasty times. and I didn't have a very supportive family and I was always the council council estate child. Um so I was bullied at school really badly. and I would say don't listen to those people, you know, uh find your own find find your own people because I didn't. I used to go with the crowd all the time and I never used to find my own people that actually respected who I was, who loved me, because I didn't feel a lot of love. I didn't actually feel love until I met Simon. And that was, you know, twenty-one years into my life that I actually found someone that loved me for who I was and it didn't matter where I came from. Um, where a lot of the people that I grew up with, including my family, we were always known as the council of state people. And I was always told I would never amount to something. I was always told that I shouldn't have dreams, that I shouldn't dream that I'm gonna be this, that, and the other, or that I was gonna take a different path. I was never, I was never sort of boosted for that. So I would say boost yourself. if you've got that kind of lifestyle uh with your family, I probably would have told Amy, the young Amy, boost yourself, go and sing and dance more, go in, go and be that happy go-lucky Amy that you know, once I moved out of home, etc., I did find her a little bit. I did lose her, but I did find her a little bit in theatre. And yeah, I just tell her just to find your own path, set your own goals. And also in my experience, I've not had very good experience with women. And there are you know, I I I was in jobs, I I grew up with women that were quite they they they would they would tread all over you. Um so I would say be kind to women, um, please don't tread all over each other, you know, we all want to succeed. so yeah, so just your own path. Find your own purpose, listen to your own voice and not the voice that's telling you all the things that your family or your friends are telling you. Um and find your tribe. Because once you do that, like I will always say that community changed my life, and it did. It changed my life completely. Um, so yeah, so that's what I would say to anyone who is struggling at the moment or your younger self, um, tap into it. Hmm. And and and and how does one do that then? You said boost yourself. How does one boost themselves? So I have learned this over the last couple of weeks. So I was that person that would always say, I'm not enough. And I can remember something that you and Akhtar said actually. And it was um, enough for who? Who are you trying to be enough for? So I literally get up every morning and I tell myself something very nice about myself in the mirror every morning now. So it could be that I'm like, You're feeling sexy today. Cool. I'm gonna roll with it. It could be, you know, it could be anything. You, you know, your body looks great. you know, I'm my mind is on fire or go with your ideas today, Ames. Do you know what mean? Because they're amazing. Like that's what I'm doing with myself. And I've done that over the last, I would say last two months, um, that I've been doing that. And that's really helped me to move forward in knowing that I am enough. And if if do you know what? If I'm not enough for you, it's because you're not ready for me. Hmm. Mmm. my god, there she is. Jesus Christ. What have we done to you? No, I like. No, I I'm not taking any credit with this. What have you done to you? This is all you. What have you done to you? Absolutely fantastic. And you know what? Mirror work's a really big thing. A lot of people cringe with mirror work. They go, I never do that. But do you know what I say to people, right? No one can see you. Hmm. one can see you but you, right? So if you're cringing at mirror work, by the way, you're always gonna cringe doing something for the first time, whatever it is, right? Always you're gonna cringe. Do you know what? I said again, I say this with love and respect. Get over yourself. Like it's the best thing that anyone ever told me to do, right? They've literally said to me, Athena, get over yourself. And I went, You're right, get over myself. Okay, get over yourself. Get over yourself for going on camera, get over yourself for going to run club, get over yourself for doing mirror work. Because In fact, just say that to yourself. Say it three times every morning. Get over yourself. Like literally, I think all of our egos are sometimes the size of mountains. And it's like, actually, if you just got rid of your goddamn ego and got out of your own goddamn way, you might actually achieve something with your life. You might surprise yourself. You might just do something really cool. And what's the worst that can happen is what I always say. So em One final thing before my final question for you, so my penultimate question is, is there's gonna be a lot of women here who their identity at the moment is a mum, right? They're like, my purpose is a mum, my purpose is a wife. You you mentioned this earlier when people used to say this to you about your purpose. What would you say to anyone who is looking for to take themselves forward at the moment, who is a mum, who is a wife, who is a sister? How can they go about finding their identity, their own identity? So I think, you know, my children are older. So I've got Ruby who's 18, Bethany's who's seventeen. And um, so for the younger mum, for the for the for the mum who's got younger children, I can totally understand how they find it hard. They're like, I'm a mum first. I'm like, but actually you were born in this world as you. So sometimes you have to take care of yourself and your business before you can take care of anybody else. Um and I also see it quite differently with my girls, um and you know, my oldest Ruby will say it, you know, time and time again. Um, that actually when they see me taking action and being the person that I am now, they love it. My Ruby's now off, you know, learning how to be cabin crew, um, getting her wings in a couple of weeks' time because she's done really well on her exams. She's seen her mum go off and be as successful as she can possibly be. So set an example. Absolutely set an example. Yes, you are a mum and you you that that's never gonna change. You are a mum, but you are also your own person. So make sure that you're putting your own person first as well. Gorgeous. Couldn't have said it better myself. I love that. And so here's my final question to you then to wrap up this podcast. uh You may know this question, because I know you listen to the podcast, but you may not, but I'm gonna ask you. So as you know, this question was asked to me um on a podcast now, what we now, like eight months ago. And I remember this question being asked to me and it absolutely stumped me. It stumped me for about three minutes where I sat quietly and I thought to myself, what the hell is the answer to that question? What's the answer? And I thought, I've got no idea. Um, and I've been asking nearly every single person now who comes on this podcast this question because I think this is where the beauty in life happens, the beauty in connection happens. So my question to you, Amy, is what is one question that you wish that somebody would have asked you that nobody has ever asked you? difficult one. You're gonna stump me on this one as well. I should have like become you know came more prepared for this question because I know it was coming. Um question. I would say People don't ask me enough about my past because they think it's it's like a hurtful thing. so yeah, and actually it forms part of my story. So if anyone asks me a question to do with my my upbringing, you know? I think that would be the the question that people don't tend to ask me. Hmm. And you know what I've been learning about is so I've been learning about buying businesses at the moment, right? And do you know one of the things I'm learning most about buying businesses is the first thing to buy a business is when you're building rapport, because rapport is the biggest thing, right? It it it extends beyond structure, extends beyond the price tag, everything like that. Rapor's the biggest thing. And the first thing to do is to establish connection and to establish If you like a common ground, as it were, and I know for a fact that there's going to be people who are listening to your podcast who maybe have actually experienced a similar upbringing to you, a similar childhood to you. Because at the end of the day, this is this is what I say. I personally have never ever in my life met a person who has not experienced some degree of trauma. Now know caveat some people experience much much deeper trauma than others but everyone's got a story right everyone's got got it and it's interesting how sometimes connection can be formed in kind of this notion of oh do you know what like this was a similar thing that happened to me and that's where the connection is and do you feel therefore Amy that people don't ask you enough about it because they feel like they're prying or they feel like uh it's quite a tough thing for you to talk about or they don't want to upset you. Why do you think people don't ask you enough about it? I think people think that they're prying into something, but actually I think um something that I've learned recently with doing my own vision to victory um and having, you know, those moments that actually by asking a question like that, you're getting to know me from day dot rather than who I've become now. I love my story, I love my journey. Um, even from being a child and not having the best upbringing, I I love all that because it it's got me to who I am today. So I'm not ashamed of it. I don't get upset talking about it anymore. Um I I just know that my journey from when I was a child could possibly help someone else who's going through it that maybe hasn't come to terms with it, I suppose is the best word. Beautifully said. And I'd encourage everybody, because obviously it's personal, I'd encourage everybody to reach out to Amy to to speak about that and and and to have to have that conversation. And you know what I find in life, Amy, and I'm and again I meet lots of different people. I feel like people do one of two things with things that happen to them in life, right? They either have this apit attitude, things happened to me, or things happened for me. Right? So things happen to me or things happen for me. And so I meet people in life who use their trauma as an excuse for their behavior. They say, I am the way I am, and I behave the way I behave, and I treat people the way I treat people because of what I have been through. And I know a lot of those people. I know personally a lot of those people, right? Within my own sort of world. Or you can say, This is what happened to me as a child. This is this is things. I choose to be different. I choose to to have this, and I'm telling you this every time. I refuse to accept people's behavior, refuse to accept it, where people say, I now do this because of my trauma. And I say to them, No, you're now doing your behavior because you're choosing to do it. And you're choosing to exist on what is known as a victim triangle or a drama triangle, which exists as a victim, the prosecutioner. And the rescuer, and you choose to exist on it as the victim. And what's been beautiful for you, Amy, is I've watched you come off of this drama triangle, come off of this victim to go, actually, I no longer choose to accept your behaviour. I no longer choose to accept that the way you treated me me was because the way that you were treated as a child and you're just passing on those bad habits. I'm sorry for your life, I'm sorry for the life that you live, but I no longer accept that this is actually what I'm gonna do. And you know what you did, Amy? You chose to be a different mum. You chose to actually l uh show love to your girls and you chose to create a different path. So therefore there was a choice that you made, you know. Absolutely. And tha that I think is the most important thing. So I love this podcast because this podcast literally can go from talking about HMO's and service accommodation and raising private finance to talking about, you know, real shit. So, you know, trauma and all sorts of things. So that's why I love it so much. I love real connection, I love real story. And I just want to say to you on this podcast, Amy, that it is my absolute, absolute honor. to have you as the Girls and Property community leader and very, very blessed to have you. You should join the community, get off that fence, because you don't know what you don't know. Um, and I can tell you that once you arrive in that community, you are gonna feel so welcome. Join the community because at the end of the day, there's opportunity in there for you, but you've got to be in it to be able to see it. Beautiful. And what is it that you're offering at the moment for anyone who has been on the fence for a while and thinking to themselves, I'm still not sure, I don't know what it looks like, I don't know what it sounds like. What have you got for in store for them? So we have got a 15 minute call with myself. So I will show you around uh the community so you can find I think, navigate your way around. Um, and actually just you have a little insight to to what it looks like, and and you can ask me any questions. Um, and if you've got any sort of anxiety about it, we can go through that too. Um, because at the end of the day, we want you in the community. So, yeah, so 15 minute call um on Zoom, so I can go through everything with you ladies, um, and get you get you on board, get you in a A pretty awesome community. There you go. that's it, ladies. So if you've been thinking about it, go and book that call. I'm going to put it in the show notes for you on this episode so you'll be able to see it.
